Museion is a research environment for the study of World Culture in a broad sense. This has been interpreted differently over the years but always in relation to activities at the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg.
Critical studies of a globalised heritage, and museums’ role in a globalised world, informed by postcolonial, feminist, intersectional theory, and whiteness theory, is what Museion is going to focus on the coming years, together with other parties at SGS. Heritage becomes more and more important as a hub in national and regional identity and is therefore used in conflicts, and also in reconciliation processes. Heritage is also important when it comes to discussions of sustainability both in terms of environmental (“nature”) and social (“culture”).
