The general idea behind the formation of the School of Global Studies is to combine the different disciplines and subjects into one single department with a common research agenda, together forming the emerging field of global studies. This requires at the same time a strengthening and development of the constitutive disciplines and subjects. The three disciplines with a PhD education (social anthropology, peace and development, human ecology) have the longest history and the largest proportion of both education and research staff. Importantly, many staff identify with several disciplines/subjects within the department, resulting in a vibrant cross-fertilization and integration in both education and research.
