Peace and Development Research is a subject area within the School of Global Studies.
Peace and development research deals with the connections between peace and development as well as those between poverty and conflict. How do poverty and development problems affect the occurrence of armed conflicts in the world? In what way can economic development contribute to protracted and sustainable peace? Peace and development research studies causes of war and armed conflicts, prerequisites for conflict resolution and establishing peace, causes of poverty and lack of development, and conditions for economic and political development.
Peace and development research is an interdisciplinary and problem-oriented subject. The department's interdisciplinary approach has led to collaborations and research project across subject boundaries, as well as active and multi-facetted cooperation with the surrounding society.
We offer courses in peace work, global development studies and international relations. These subjects are also included in the undergraduate programme in global studies. You can also apply for further studies at postgraduate level.
