Peace and Conflict Research

11 - 12 May 2009 in Gothenburg

New Perspectives on Peace,
Development and Conflict

This years’ PhD Symposium on Peace and Conflict Research will be held at the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg, May 11-12 2009. Participation in the symposium is open for all PhD students in Sweden engaged in research centered on peace and conflict.

The ‘PhD Symposium on Peace and Conflict Studies’ is an annual, national conference for PhD students in Peace and Conflict Studies. The purpose with the symposium is to create a meeting-place where PhD students with peace and conflict as their main research focus can gather to discuss their ongoing research and the future of Peace and Conflict Studies in Sweden, irrespective of their disciplinary affiliation.

This year the symposium is organized by Peace and Development Research students and held at the School of Global Studies of the University of Gothenburg.

We will begin around lunchtime on Monday the 11th of May and finish up early afternoon on Tuesday the 12th of May 2009. The symposium will be closed with a keynote speech by Mr. Jan Eliasson, who has been amongst others former Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Darfur. The symposium is funded by the Folke Bernadotte Academy, through which accommodation, travel expenses and meals will be covered.

Please confirm your presence by e-mail through peer.schouten@globalstudies.gu.se before the 10th of April. Together with your confirmation, you should also submit an abstract of the paper you are going to present.

Further information

Paper presentation: All participants are expected to present a 3.000-10.000 words paper on their areas of research (in English). In order for us to arrange contributions into panels, the deadline for abstracts (ca. 1/2 page) is set at the 10th of April.

Full papers should be sent in no later than the 1st of May.

Location: School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg

Language: The symposium will be held in English.

Accommodation: A single hotel room (or double room for those willing to share) will be booked at Hotel Flora for all participants coming from outside of Gothenburg for the night of the 11th of May.

Travel expenses: Travelling expenses will be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts, given that you try to find the cheapest tickets.

Food: During the symposium, the School of Global Studies will take care of all the meals (lunch and dinner on 11th and lunch on the 12th).
