What is the significance of the survival of artefacts in Southeast Asian contexts for those who keep, care for, restore or lose them? What do the production, exchange and consumption of things mean to Southeast Asian societies over the long-term?
This panel invites contributors to explore the contemporary politics and poetics of displaying, representing and conserving material and the manner in which these affect and are affected by notions of heritage, tradition and identity. It will provide a platform for the exploration of ancient sites and architecture, of collections of museum objects, and of contemporary artistic practice in relation to material forms.
Proposals are invited which address any of these themes in relation to Southeast Asian material.
