Peace and Development Research
PhD, Professor
I hold a B.A. in Political Science (Cornell University, USA) and a Ph.D. in Peace and Development Studies from the University of Gothenburg. I was Visiting Professor (Feb 2004; Nov 2004; March 2006) in the International MA in Peace and Development Studies, Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain (UJI).
I am currently Professor in Peace and Development Studies at the School of Global Studies (SGS) and member of the Steering Committee at the Gothenburg Center for Globalization and Development, Gothenburg University (GCGD). I also lead (together with Sylva Frisk and Mikela Lundahl) the research group Global Gender Studies at SGS.
My research interests are in security studies, the security-development nexus, the privatization of security, politics of identity, feminist theory, and (qualititative) research methodology. Most recently, I have been conducting research in the DRC together with Maria Eriksson Baaz.
My current research projects include:
Security for sale: Perceptions of Threat among Private Security Companies (together with Joakim Berndtsson). Financed by the Swedish Research Council (VR).
Stemming Violence against Civilians? Effective External Security Sector Reform in Conflict/Post-Conflict Settings - the case of the DRC, with, Maria Eriksson Baaz, Stina Hansson and Fredrik Söderbaum. Financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
Studying the Agency of Being Governed (with Stina Hansson and Sofie Hellberg)
