Current research projects

Hamas between Sharia rule and Demo-Islam

Compromising Justice and Human Security in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: The role of the leaders' and the grassroots’ interplay in peace building (Launching phase of interdisciplinary project with peace researchers, political scientists, science of religion and social anthropologists).

Just like couscous: gender, agency and the politics of female circumcision in Cairo (Funding: Sida/Sarec 2002-2008).

Teaching and tutoring

Teach and supervise at the undergraduate level, speaks Arabic (Egyptian dialect), like examining anthropological texts within my areas of interest and discussing anthropology outside the university, "the third task".

Field experience

  • One year of fieldwork in Cairo within Ph D Project, funded by Sida/SAREC (2002-2003).
  • As part of the on-going research project 'Hamas between Sharia rule and Demo-Islam´, fieldwork (5 weeks)has taken place in the West Bank (2009).
