Current research

Post-doc research project, title: Crime and reconciliation in post-conflict societies: A case-study of South Africa. Post-conflict and transitional societies are often plagued by rising levels of crime, which can seriously hamper a peace process and reduces the quality of the peace.

The project studies the relationship between crime and reconciliation in post-conflict societies. The topic is approached through a case study of South Africa, focusing on the grass-roots level.

The post-apartheid period has seen a dramatic increase in crime and the country is today one of the world’s most violent and crime-ridden countries in the world, which constitutes one of the key challenges to the new democracy and has a major impact on everyday life, attitudes and relationships.
