About

Maria Eriksson Baaz is a researcher at School of Global Studies. Since 2009 she is also a research fellow at the Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala. 

Areas of interest

Her research interests are in African politics and security, military and police reform, postcolonial theory, diaspora studies and gender. Recently she has focused on masculinity, militarization and army reform in the DR Congo.

Current research

She is currently working on three research projects:

  1. "Stemming Violence against Civilians?: Effective External Security Sector Reform in Conflict/Post-Conflict Settings—the case of the DRC"
    Funded by Sida, together with Maria Stern and Fredrik Söderbaum
     
  2. “The new developers? Circular migrants in policy and practice”
    Funded by Sida, together with Marita Eastmond and Lisa Åkesson
     
  3. “Gendering and (Un)Gendering Police Reform: the case of the DRC” at the Nordic Africa Institute.
