More than thirty years research in the fields of rural and environmental sociology; social and environmental movements; agricultural and environmental policy; rural development (European and developing countries); nature protection, resource use and development of coastal and rural areas - fishery, agriculture; natural resource management; scientific and local knowledge for resource use.
In recent years participation in the following interdisciplinary and international research projects:
1. ”Sustainable Coastal Zone Management” (SUCOZOMA, Mistra-funded) – interdisciplinary environmental research program about resource use (fishery, mussel culture), related conflicts and water quality management at the Swedish West and East coast
2. “Development of a Procedural Framework for Action Plans to Reconcile Conflicts Between the Conservation of Large Vertebrates and the Use of Biological Resources: Fisheries and Fish-eating Vertebrates as a Model Case” (FRAP, EU funded) – interdisciplinary European research project, including conflicts between seals and fishery in Sweden and Finland
3. “Welfare Quality” (WQ, EU funded) – interdisciplinary European research project about welfare of farm animals, including the cattle, pig and poultry sectors
4. “Multifunctional Agriculture” (Multiagri, EU funded) – overview and synthesis on the multifunctionality of agriculture and rural areas in 15 European countries
5. “Rural Sustainable Development in the Knowledge Society” (CORASON, EU funded) – cross-national sociological research project about the conditions for rural sustainable development in twelve European countries
More than 15 years teaching university courses in sociology and human ecology (undergraduate and doctoral students) at University of Gothenburg (since 1997), Free University Brussels (since 2001), Lomonosov Moscow State University (2007 and 2008), Free University Berlin (1994-1998). Topics of teaching include environmental and rural sociology, natural resource use and management, urban and rural development.
