The pace and extent at which the arena for human action is becoming global is increasing as more and more social actors and locations become linked together in the ''globalised space'' in ways that are becoming increasingly complex and diverse. The School of Global Studies represents a unique environment for research and education in the field of globalisation and global issues.
The general idea behind the formation of the School of Global Studies is to combine the different disciplines and subjects into one single department with a common research agenda, together forming the emerging field of global studies. This requires at the same time a strengthening and development of the constitutive disciplines and subjects.
The School of Global Studies is a multi-disciplinary department and offers education at undergraduate and graduate level in the form of programmes and freestanding courses, as well as research-based programmes.
Research and education is carried out within: Human Ecology, Human Rights, Museion, Regional Studies (African Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies), Peace and Development Research and Social Anthropology.
The former Center of Global Gender Studies does no longer exist as an organization, though global gender issues are important parts of the ongoing research and education, and are discussed within the research network GADNET.
